Singapore Postpones LAX-NRT A380 Service

We had our first flights booked on the A380 with Singapore Airlines from LA in late May.  Today, our hopes were dashed with this announcement on Singapore’s website:

“Singapore Airlines is postponing the introduction of Airbus A380 services on flights SQ12 andSQ11 between Singapore and Los Angeles via Tokyo Narita until further notice. The flights will continue to be operated with Boeing 747-400 aircraft.”

While we’re very disappointed, there is a bright spot.  Since Singapore doesn’t allow Star Alliance upgrades on the A380, we may now have a shot since it’s changed to a 747.  We’re still looking forward to an A380 trip sometime in the near future.  Hopefully it’s not too far off.
