If you’re looking for a suitable hotel close to the Cairo airport, the JW Marriott may fit the bill.  We used this for a short 8 hour stopover on our way out of Cairo and it worked well.

Location: The hotel is technically located in Heliopolis, less than 10 minutes from the Cairo Airport.  You’re around 25-30 minutes from downtown Cairo, depending upon traffic.  The Giza Pyramids are about 30-45 minutes, again, depending upon traffic.

Rooms: While the rooms have been recently renovated, they are done in an “older” hotel style.  Think provincial colonial maybe?  If you stayed at a Marriott stateside in the late 90s, it appears they’ve finally found a use for all of that furniture they never used.  Dark woods, dark carpeting permeate throughout and find their way into the green marbled bathroom as well.  However, that being said, the room was clean and updated with all the amenities one would expect to find in a Marriott.

Facilities: This hotel is a large, sprawling 400+ room complex situated on a large, rambling golf course.  There’s always a bevy of activity in the lobby and a line of cars out front.  In addition to the basics, there are 12 restaurants, a spa, the golf course and a waterpark.  We had appetizers and drinks in one of the lobby restaurants.  The food was mediocre at best, the service polite, but extremely slow.  This while the restaurant and bar were maybe 25% full.  Bags and guests are security screened upon arrival in the outer lobby.  The hotel perimeter is secured and cars searched before being allowed near the front lobby.

Staff:  What really sets this hotel apart is the front desk and concierge staff.  They were extremely friendly and accommodating, more so than many Marriott properties we’ve stayed at.  They helped us arrange transportation to the airport and also were very helpful with local information.  We couldn’t say enough nice things about the staff here.

Pros: One of the best hotels near the Cairo airport with reasonable rates.

Cons:  If we were staying in this area for more than 24 hours, we’d look for a different hotel of similar quality, although you will pay more.
