Casa Rural Erletxe - City EntranceIf you’re planning a multi-day trip to the Rioja region of Spain, this is where you want to stay.  In fact, you’ll probably never want to leave!  And what about the name?  Erletxe is Euskerian (Basque) for “Bee House”.  Maria raises bees a few miles away at the foot of the Santa Cantabria mountains.  She has a “honey room” just off the courtyard of the house and you can sample fresh honey at breakfast each morning.

Location: Erletxe is located in the village of Laguardia.  The three story house is built along the exterior fortress walls that date back centuries.  Laguardia does not allow cars into the village proper, so access is by foot through one of the city gates or via a garage door on the exterior.

Casa Rural Erletxe Sample RoomRooms: Every room here is fantastic. You’ll feel like you’re in your own home.  Some have more room than others and most have an ensuite bath.  Some face the interior courtyard, some into the village and a couple overlook the vineyards of Rioja.  Most rooms are simply furnished and have large beds.  There’s ample closet space in each and most have desks, nightstands and windows to let in the fresh outside air.  One thing to be aware of is there is no TV, no clock radios or any other items you may be used to in a regular hotel room.

Casa Rural Erletxe BathFacilities: There’s a large common area living room on the second floor that’s furnished with lots of interesting things from the families worldwide travels.  There’s a large TV with DVD player along with Wi-Fi to access the internet.  The Wi-Fi signal does not reach all the rooms, so you’re best chance for access is here.  Downstairs, there’s a large breakfast room with a small library of books you can read during your stay.  There’s also a one-person elevator, which will make getting your luggage to the top floors a lot easier than climbing the stairs.

Casa Rural Erletxe Common AreaEach morning there’s a home-style Spanish breakfast served for a couple of hours.  Outside, there’s a large enclosed courtyard with outdoor tables and chairs where you can unwind with a glass of wine.  Restaurants in Laguardia are all less than 3-4 minutes walk from Erletxe.  If you’re driving, be aware that since cars are not allowed inside of Laguardia, all parking is outside the exterior walls of the village.  Parking here can be brutal, as you’re competing with residents and there’s only so much parking at the top of the hill where the village sits.

Casa Rural Erletxe Outdoor CourtyardStaff:  Maria is the ultimate host.  She’s lived in this area for many years and knows just about everything there is to know about the area, Spain and beyond.  You’ll feel like you’re spending time with your family while you’re at Erletxe.

Pros: If you want to experience Spain like a local, this is how and where you do it.

Casa Rural Erletxe External City WallCons: The only downside is it may be a bit noisy inside the house with other guests.  Many of the rooms on the 2nd floor, open out into a central hallway.  If you want a bit more privacy, rent the bedroom on the first floor.  It’s close to the entrance and it’s the only bedroom on the main floor.

IAH TIP:  Book early.  Erletxe is a top-rated place to stay in this area on TripAdvisor so it books up months in advance.  Also, if you’re traveling with others, consider renting the entire house.

Hotel Lusso Infantas - ExteriorHotel infantas is a clean hotel in a great location in central Madrid. It may be a bit more three star than four star as it’s advertised, but will work great for most travelers.  Plus, it’s a great value, especially if you’re not spending much time in your room.

Location: Hotel infantas is located just a block or two off of Gran Via, one of the most famous streets in Madrid. Almost everything you can see in central Madrid is less than 10-20minutes walk from the hotel. Some great restaurants and bars are just steps away eliminating the need for taxis or taking the metro.  It has a corner location in a trendy neighborhood with considerable nightlife.  Noise can be a factor here, no matter what floor you’re on.  Two metro stops are within a five minute walk giving you easy access to the rest of Madrid.

Rooms at Hotel Lusso InfantasRooms: Rooms are fairly well appointed, clean and have plenty of storage space. Infantas is in a typically old European style building, so most rooms have double, floor-to ceiling narrow doors that open out onto the street below. Luckily, there are two sets in most rooms to cut down on outside noise, but noise can still be an issue. The neighboorhood of the hotel has a significant night life,  so noise on the streets can last well past the early morning hours. You may want to consider an inner-courtyard room, however, book early as there aren’t many in this hotel.  Bathrooms are also good sized for European standards and some include tubs a well as showers. There’s plenty of storage For your gear as well as safes in each room to store your valuables.

Bathrooms at Hotel Lusso InfantasFacilities: The hotel has a small bar and separate small restaurant. Each morning, breakfast is served in the restaurant and consists of a small buffet with hot and cold items, including eggs made to order. Food selection changed slightly each day which was nice. We didn’t eat here for dinner, however, the restaurant appeared to be quite popular.  Free wi-fi is offered throughout the hotel, but the signal is very weak in most areas, including the lobby.  If you need fast internet access, you’re best bet is Starbucks across the street.

Street in front of Hotel Lusso Infantas

Staff: Service at the hotel was very good. Front desk personnel were very familiar with the neighborhood and we able to make recommendations and suggestions for most places in central Madrid.

Pros: Clean rooms in a great part of the city.  Lots of things close by and within easy walking distance.  Great value for the money.

Cons: Street noise can be an issue, even though it’s not on a busy street.  A/C doesn’t work all that well in rooms and Wi-Fi signals are weak in all spots of the hotel.

IAH TIP:  Book an interior room if possible, to have a quiet nights sleep.

Image of Hotel ViuraHotel Viura is one of the most unique boutique hotels in the Rioja region of Spain.  While there’s the Gehry designed Hotel Marques de Riscal in nearby El Ciego, you’ll pay half the price here and still be close to everything Rioja has to offer.

Location: Viura is located in the tiny town of Villabuena de Alava, a small town of just 317 people, yet boasts over 43 wineries.  Laguardia is less than 10 minutes away as are many small villages in this area of Rioja.  The main facility in town is the hotel.  There is a small taverna just off the church square less than a two minute walk from the hotel, but there aren’t any other services here, so be aware.

Hotel viura RoomRooms: Rooms here are unique.  And that’s unique in a good way.  Very few are exactly alike and all furnishings are very modern.  From mood lighting in various colors, to faux fur rugs, if you like modern, Viura is your place.  Rooms are very well sized for European hotel rooms and furnishings are minimal.  Some may not like the “colder” feel of polished concrete floors and walls, but rooms still feel cozy.  Some rooms only have showers, so if a tub is you’re thing, make sure to ask when making a reservation.  Some rooms have an “open bathroom” concept, with only a curtain separating the bath/toilet areas from the room.  There’s plenty of storage for bags and your gear, including a nice sized safe in each room.  Rooms have a simple color palette and the beds are very comfy.  Almost every room has a great view of the town and rooms on the third floor, actually have small outdoor patios.Hotel Viura room bath area

Facilities:  The hotel has a very large bar area with comfy couches and chairs.  It also boasts an extensive outdoor patio area, great for those warm Spanish nights.  The bar serves drinks as well as a wide array of appetizers.  There’s a large open meeting area and computer lounge, just past reception, along with various seating areas throughout the lobby.  On the lower level, there’s a large restaurant.  It’s decor is unique with dozens of wine barrels suspended from the ceiling.  In addition to al fresco dining outside, there’s also a very unique wine cellar featuring hundreds of wine from throughout Spain and the world.

Hotel Viura restaurantStaff: Front desk staff here were very helpful and knowledgeable about the surrounding area.  Housekeeping was quick and efficient and included turndown service each day.  Breakfast service wasn’t the best.  On a couple of days during our stay, the restaurant was full and the staff overwhelmed.  Even on non-crowded days, service took longer than it should for a continental breakfast with eggs to order.  Our advice is go as soon as the restaurant opens.View from Rooftop deck of Hotel Viura

Pros:  A completely unique hotel in an unbeatable setting.  Wine on the rooftop deck during sunset overlooking the village and surrounding countryside makes for a truly special occasion.  Unobtrusive service with just the right amenities to relax and enjoy your stay in Rioja.

Cons: Once you’re here, you’re here.  No small markets, grocery or other places to dine other than the hotel.  Very slow, inconsistent breakfast service.

IAH TIP:  Since this hotel is very unique, you’ll want to make reservations early as its limited rooms can fill quickly during busy times.

If you’re looking for 5 star accommodations at a 3 star price, the Trump Las Vegas is your place.  Close to everything in the central part of the strip and just steps from the Fashion Show mall, you can’t go wrong.  It’s also one of the few hotels on the strip that is completely non-smoking and has no casino.

Location: The Trump is located about a block off of the strip, across from Nordstrom at the Fashion Show Mall. It’s less than a three minute walk from the Encore/Wynn complex.   I-15 runs about a block behind the hotel.

Rooms: Rooms here are perfectly sized and well appointed.  Originally planned as a condo complex, all rooms have a small kitchen including stove, refrigerator, dishwasher and bar. We stayed in a 1 BR corner suite that had views of the strip and downtown.  Each corner suite has a small entrance foyer, small dining area with 4 seat dining table, corner sectional, flat screen TV and a small 3/4 bath off of the kitchen.  The large bedroom is separate and had two closets, along with flat screen TV and sitting area.  The bathroom is huge.  It’s almost the same size as the bedroom itself.  A large soaking tub with a large picture window, along with double sinks, separate shower and toilet areas give you a ton of space.  Rooms were super quiet.  If you want turn-down service, you do need to request it.

Facilities: The hotel has a fairly decent size pool along with plenty of chairs and outdoor seating.  A large exercise room with free weights and exercise equipment give you plenty of workout options.  There’s also a small spa, along with a restaurant and bar.  Your resort fee does include free wi-fi throughout the hotel.  The entire hotel is non-smoking and there is no casino.  The lobby is huge and it’s very quick and easy to check-in and out compared to other properties in Las Vegas.  Compared to other Las Vegas hotels, we never had to wait more than a minute for elevator service.

Staff: Staff were great.  They were always willing to assist.  Doormen were quick to get taxi service as well as greet you when you return.  Restaurant service was quick at both breakfast and lunch.

Pros: Great service, large rooms and great location on the strip. Entirely non-smoking hotel.

Cons: There really aren’t any cons to staying at the Trump in Las Vegas.  The only one that may be a “con” for some people is that there is no on-site casino.

IAH TIP:  You can get better rates via the hotel website on stays of 3 nights or longer.

Elements is a phenomenal resort on Koh Samui if you like a quiet relaxing atmosphere and don’t mind being somewhat remote.  We absolutely loved our 6 day stay here.

Location: The hotel is located on the far southwestern tip of Koh Samui, in Phang Ka.  It’s on the complete opposite end from the airport, so a transfer will take around 45 minutes or so, depending upon traffic in the more populated areas.  The resort is about a kilometer off of the main road.  You’ll wind your way through a small residential area and the resort will be at the end.  There are a couple of small convenience type stores about 2km from the resort for any snacks or small items you may want to purchase.  It can easily be reached by a short 15-20 minute walk or take one of the free bikes from the resort.

Chaweng is the center of nightlife and activity on Koh Samui.  It’s about a 20-25 minute car ride from the resort.  There are a few things in between, but not much.  We found the location to be an advantage not a disadvantage, but then we were looking for a more relaxing, do nothing vacation.

While the resort is “ocean front”, it actually is on a secluded bay with shallow water.  During dry season and low tide, you can be as much as 500-100 feet from water more than 1 or 2 feet deep.  It’s still very beautiful, but if you’re looking to be able to jump right into the water from the resort, you may be disappointed.  The beach is sandy in front of the hotel, however beyond that it can be a bit rocky.

There are many flights to Koh Samui everyday on Thai or Bangkok Airways. Most leave almost hourly from Bangkok or other destinations.  Note that if you do travel via Bangkok and arrive late in the evening, an overnight stay might be required before going on to Koh Samui.

Rooms: Elements is a very modern, contemporary place to stay.  The resort itself is small and compact, so you’re never far from activities, restaurant, pool or spa, no matter where your room is located.  Larger and more expensive rooms are located towards the pool and beachfront in a “villa” type atmosphere.  Smaller, less expensive rooms are situated towards the center of the resort in “villa” style or “two story” type buildings.

All rooms are simple, with modern Thai style furniture and furnishings.  We stayed in a 2BR oceanfront villa with a pool, that was directly next to the main resort pool.  The 2BR villa is a walled “compound” that consisted of four separate buildings, a single bedroom in each of two buildings, a central building that housed the living room and kitchen and a small half bathroom in yet another building.  Between the buildings and the ocean, lie the room pool, which was of significant size.  There’s also an in ground hot-tub in the villa.

All of the “villa style” rooms are very private, with 8 foot walls surrounding each.  On the end of our villa, was a wooden screen that you could open to look out directly on the beach and ocean.  Almost all of the buildings in our villa were floor to ceiling glass on two sides.  During the very hot months, the air conditioning can have a hard time keeping rooms cool, even with the draperies shut.  The kitchen area included a small refrigerator as well as dishes and barware.  A flat screen TV was in each building and free wi-fi was available throughout the resort with fairly decent speeds.  Housekeeping was twice daily and the rooms were immaculate.

Facilities: The hotel has a pool, exercise room, full-service spa and restaurant with small bar.  The exercise room is very large, with floor to ceiling glass on three sides.  There’s a wide range of exercise equipment as well as free weights.  There’s a small changing area and locker room as well.  The pool is a large rectangular shape with chairs and umbrellas down each side.  It opens on to the beach area, which includes additional chairs and umbrellas.

The restaurant is open-air style, with additional patio seating outside.  A small bar that’s elevated a few steps above one end of the restaurant, is a great place to relax in the afternoon or before lunch of dinner.  The food here was excellent.  There’s a great combination of traditional Thai food as well as Western favorites.  If you don’t see what you like on the menu, all you need to do is ask and either the Thai or Western chefs are happy to accommodate your requests.  Prices are reasonable.  There are also a couple of theme nights during the week, such as BBQ night.  Breakfast is included in most room rates.

The spa here is really unbelievable.  You can see our separate review of that, here.

Staff:  The staff at Elements was exceptional.  The entire crew were extremely helpful and accommodating, no matter what we needed or what we wanted to do. We’ve been to Thailand many times and we can truly say, that the service here is top notch, not only for resorts in Thailand, but most places around the world.  In addition to transfers to and from the hotel, we also hired one of the hotel’s staff members to take us on a tour around the island for a day.  The vehicle was always stocked with cool towels and bottled water or soft drinks to help survive the hottest part of the day.

Pros: A very relaxing getaway at a very reasonable price.  Food and spa re great and the resort has a very quiet atmosphere.

Cons: If you want to be near the hustle and bustle of Koh Samui, this may not be the option for you.  Also, if you want to be directly on the ocean, you may want to seek out other resorts.

IAH TIP:  Occasionally the hotel has special rates on Jetsetter.  Rates are lower during off-season.

The Hotel Andra is a boutique hotel located near Seattle Center on the edge of the Belltown neighborhood in downtown Seattle.  We’ve also stayed at their sister property in Portland, the Hotel Modera.  Both are great places to stay when you’re in either city.

The Hotel Andra is a SLH (Small Luxury Hotel) located in the hear of downtown.  It’s in a 10 story refurbished building right on the corner of 4th & Seneca.  You’re within a 5 minute walk of shopping at Seattle Center, Pike Place Market and the best of Seattle’s restaurant scene.

We booked a discounted weekend rate of $160 per night via the hotel’s website.  Our room was a “luxe suite” located on a corner of the building on the 10th floor.  Since the building is over 50 years old, rooms here can be a bit smaller than most. Luckily, our suite was comprised of two rooms.  A separate sitting are with full size desk, couch and plenty of room to spread out was separated with double doors from the bedroom area.  The bedroom was equipped with a large, king size platform bed and small closet.  Bathrooms here are very small in comparison to most hotels.  The bathroom is a shower only (albeit oversized), plus toilet and small sink.  There is a small shelf to keep your travel items close by.  Across from the bathroom is a small dressing area with full size closet and safe.  Rooms are furnished with modern european style furniture and styling.  Flat panel TVs are in both the sitting room and bedroom area.

Check-in and check out was easy and simple.  Valet parking is available for a rather steep $30 per day.  It may be cheaper to park in local parking garages that are within a block of the hotel, if you don’t need someone to park your vehicle.

Hotel Andra has Lola, a Tom Douglas restaurant located on-site.  Lola serves breakfast, lunch and dinner featuring greek/mediterranean fare.  Prices are a bit on the high side, but you can beat the convenience.  There’s also an Italian restaurant located right next door and Dahlia Bakery, Dahlia Lounge and Serious Pie are located directly across the street.  Other dining options abound within a 5-10 minute walk of the hotel.  The Pike Place Market is a short 5 minute walk from the hotel as is the Seattle Center shopping complex.

Overall we really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Andra.  You can’t beat it for location and the convenience of being able to walk to most places in the core downtown area of Seattle.

IAH TIP:  Is the Hotel Andra haunted by ghosts of the past?  Check out this article and maybe you can find out during your stay.

We really liked the Trump SOHO.  The website gives you the impression that the hotel is much larger than it really is.  With about 8 rooms per floor, it’s not huge.  But, it has everything anyone could need and it’s close to shopping and great places to eat.

Location: You can’t beat the location of the Trump SOHO.  At the intersection of SOHO, Tribeca and the West Village, it’s close to just about everything you could ever want to do.  It’s also the tallest building around, so you can’t miss it.  From LaGuardia in average traffic, it’s about 35 minutes via the Williamsburg Bridge.  Subway stops are less than 3 minutes walk.

Rooms: Rooms here are very spacious for NYC.  At just over 400 sq feet, the bathrooms are almost as big as the room itself.  Well laid out, there’s a good sized desk, full size sofa and floor to ceiling windows.  We were on the 22nd floor, so we had views across SOHO to the Lower East Side and the Williamsburg Bridge.  You could also look towards midtown and see the Empire State Building.  There’s a large soaking tub, dual vanities and walk in shower.  Closet space is the only things that’s limited here.  If you’re bringing more than 4-5 days of clothes for two that need to be hung, you may be disappointed.  You can control everything in the room via the TV remote control including heating/AC, curtains, etc.  WIth only 8 rooms on each floor, noise outside the rooms is minimal.

Facilities: The hotel has a great spa and the only personal Turkish Hammam’s in NYC.  We’ve covered that in a separate review.  The lobby has plenty of seating areas and there’s also a great on-site restaurant, Quattro and also a bar called Kastel that turns into a night club after 11PM.  We didn’t try Quattro, but we did visit Kastel earlier in the afternoon for happy hour.  It opens at 5PM and is fairly small.  If you had 100 people in here, you’d be claustrophobic.  Drinks were phenomenal, but a bit high priced even for NYC.  Average prices were $18-$25 each.

Staff: Staff were nice and helpful.  Bar staff were very helpful and always made sure we had what we needed.  Housekeeping was prompt and we received turn down service every night.

Pros: Good service, large rooms and location, location, location.

Cons: Even with 4 elevators, there can be a bit of a wait during busy periods.  Cab drivers have a hard time finding the hotel, so it’s a good idea to make sure you take the cross street address with you when you’re out and about.

IAH TIP:  Jet Luxury Resorts “owns” a block of rooms with better rates than booking with the hotel direct.  They also have great last minute deals.

If you’re looking for a nice hotel within walking distance of just about everything in downtown Santa Fe, the Inn at Loretto is an excellent choice.  An AAA 4-Diamond property, as well as having been on Travel & Leisures Top 100 hotel list, the Inn at Loretto lives up to expectations.

Location: The Inn at Loretto is just two blocks off of the main plaza in Santa Fe.  You’re less than 5 minutes away from shops, restaurants, and most of the historical sights downtown.  If you’re arriving by car from I-25, it takes about 15-20 minutes to get to the hotel.  From Albuquerque, it’s a bit over an hour to the northwest.

Rooms: Rooms here are very good sized, especially if you go with the Deluxe rooms.  Most of those have sitting areas and some with balconies.  Beds are extremely comfortable and the rooms are well appointed.  Bathrooms are just a touch on the small side, but still adequate.  One thing that is nice here is that rooms are very quiet.  Due to the thick adobe-style walls, you’ll barely hear a peep from anywhere.  Some rooms on the first level have small outdoor patios facing the parking lot.  There are only one or two elevator banks in this hotel, so some rooms can be rather far away for some guests.  The Inn is pet-friendly and charges $25 per stay per pet, up to two.

Facilities: The hotel has a pool, exercise room and full-service spa.  There’s a huge bar area just off the main lobby and the on-site restaurant is Lumenaria.  We were only able to have breakfast at Lumenaria, but if their breakfast was any indication of what lunch or dinner is like, it’s phenomenal.  Parking is via valet.  The entire hotel and parking area is enclosed by a wall around the perimeter.

Staff: Staff was great from the valet and check-in to the restaurant.

Pros: Best location in town, ultra quiet rooms and great restaurant.

Cons: None.

IAH TIP:  Occasionally the hotel has special rates on Jetsetter.

We’ve been to the Mandarin Oriental DC several times.  If you’ve never stayed at a Mandarin before, you’re in for a great experience.  We’ve also stayed at the Mandarin in San Francisco, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur and we’ve always had consistently good experiences and the DC outpost didn’t disappoint.

Location: The Mandarin is located just a short 10 minute walk from the National Mall, very near the Smithsonian.  Directly across the highway is the Jefferson Memorial.  It’s also near two Metro stops.  L’Enfant Plaza is the closest, with the Smithsonian stop just a bit further away.  One disadvantage is that there aren’t many shops or restaurants near the hotel.  While there is a Starbucks, sandwich shop and CVS right across the street, you’ll be headed to the Metro or a good 15-20 minute walk to other shops or restaurants.

Rooms: Rooms here are average sized and very well appointed.  Beds are very comfortable and they all have the “signature” Mandarin bathroom.  It consists of a large soaker tub, separate shower with marble throughout.  Bathrooms here tend to be larger than in most other hotels.  Rooms on the Tai Pan club floor tend to be a few square foot larger, plus you’ll also have access to free breakfast, happy hour and all day snacks.  All rooms have large windows, a spacious work area, flat screen TV and plenty of outlets to connect your electronics.

Facilities: The hotel has two highly rated restaurants.  For less formal fare, Sou’Wester is the hotels more casual dining spot serving breakfast, lunch and dinner.  CityZen, open for dinner only, is one of the DC areas most highly ranked restaurants.  Advance reservations are highly recommended, even if you’re a guest in the hotel.  There’s also the Empress Lounge, located in a large open area right inside the hotel entrance and a small coffee shop just off the check-in area.  Also on-site is a sensational spa and workout facility, which has a separate review here.

Staff: Everyone at the hotel from the doorman and front desk staff, to the maids are always very friendly and helpful.  During our stay we did have a small concern at the Spa.  The issue was resolved quickly and very professionally.

Pros: Great rooms, great spa and five star treatment.

Cons: Restaurants and stores are a 20 minute walk or metro ride away.

IAH TIP:  The spa and restaurants are popular, so if you’re planning a visit to either, reserve early.

Hotel Jerome, Aspen.

We’ve stayed twice at the Hotel Jerome over the past three years.  Once in low season and this time in high season. Unfortunately, our hearts weren’t won over either time.  Owned by Rock Resorts, it’s a 4-Diamond AAA property.  How they earn that award, we’re not sure.  There are many better options for places to stay in this price range or less.

Location: Hotel Jerome is located on Aspen’s Main Street.  If you’re unfamiliar with Aspen, the most popular part of town sits on one side of Main Street.  Everything from Hotel Jerome is within walking distance.  Ajax Mountain, the main ski mountain in Aspen is about a 10 minute walk of 7-8 blocks.  The hotel offers free transportation to and from the mountain.

Rooms at Hotel Jerome

Rooms: One positive thing that the Jerome has going for it is room size.  Even standard rooms are around 500 sq feet, so there’s plenty of room to spread out.  The original part of the hotel was built in 1889.  In the early 1980s, a wing with additional rooms and ballrooms were added.  Rooms are available in both sections of the hotel.

Rooms at Hotel Jerome

Rooms are appointed in Victorian style, as is the rest of the hotel.  The look and feel of the rooms is not for everyone.  Rooms have tons of storage space, both in the form of closets and dressers.  Furniture and beds are “well worn”.  The bathrooms are large and well appointed.  Luckily, the hotel has added flat screen hotels in every room to at least attempt to look somewhat updated.  We found out the hard way that heating and air conditioning in the hotel are “seasonal”.  If you’re there during a warm day in the Spring, you won’t have AC.  Stay there during a cold spell in the Summer and you won’t have heat.

Facilities: The hotel has an average sized pool and two small outdoor jacuzzis, all surrounded by a large deck.  There are two bars located inside the hotel, The Library, a small, quiet bar and the J-Bar, which has a more sports bar feel.  Breakfast, lunch and dinner is served in the Garden Terrace.  We ate breakfast on one day and it was just OK.  A small, simple buffet was $15.  Based upon what you received for the money, it was a bit overpriced, even by Aspen standards.  Valet parking is available.

Staff: Front desk and valet staff were very nice.  They were always willing and able to help with any request.  Service was better in the J-Bar during this visit than our previous one.

Other: While the hotel bills itself as a “resort”, don’t be misled.  It’s a basic hotel.  They may choose to call it a resort so they can charge you a $30 daily “resort fee”.  We hate “add-on”fees.  Just include it in the rate.  What do you get for the $30 per day?  Valet parking, internet access, use of the business center and in-town transportation.

Pros: Large rooms and friendly service.

Cons: An old, tired hotel on the edge of town of 3 star quality with 5+ star pricing.

When we saw the Jerome on Jetsetter, we thought we’d give it another try.  When your in the price range, even with the substantial discount, there are many better alternatives in Aspen that are closer to the ski area, as well as being in the heart of the popular places in town.  While the service at the Jerome was good, other hotels go above and beyond.  Next time, we’ll put our money elsewhere.

IAH TIP:  If you want a good nights rest, make sure you request a room far away from the ball room/conference area.
