Serious Pie is a great place for unique thin crust pizzas in Belltown in downtown Seattle. Another Tom Douglas outpost, this isn’t your typical pizza spot. If you want your basic, everyday pizza, go elsewhere. With just 5 pies on the menu, you won’t have a lot of choices, but you can do some mixing and matching of ingredients. There’s usually also a “pizza of the day” that’s not included on the menu.
On this visit, we had a basic mozzarella and San Marzano tomato pie with fennel sausage as an addition. If you’re a thin crust pizza fan, you’ll be wowed. No thick crust options here. The crust is very light, with an almost airy quality. If you tend to eat more than a couple slices, you won’t feel like you just ate a loaf of bread, as at some other pizza places.
Pizza’s here can be a bit spendy. Most pies are $14-$19 and will break down into about 8 oblong slices. If you’re hungry, you can definitely do a single pie per person.
Serious has a decent wine list, mostly Italian in nature, with a few WA state wines. Microbrews on tap, plus a hard cider round out the drink options. Not to be missed is the home made root beer. Unbelievable. It has great spice and reminds you of what root beer should be.
Service here was extremely fast and efficient. We had our pizza in less than 15 minutes and the place was packed. We wouldn’t have guessed on that based upon the smaller size of the kitchen. You can easily expect to wait 30-60 minutes for a seat during peak times. The waiting area is a bit small, but you can catch a drink at Dahlia Lounge located next door. The hostess will call you on your cell phone when your table at Serious is ready. Dahlia is also owned by Tom Douglas as well.
All in all, if you’re into unique pies or a pizza aficionado you can’t miss Serious Pie. It’s serious.
