Atmosphere
The atmosphere here is just fine.  It’s fish and chips.  No more, no less.  Simple and basic furnishings, as well as clean.

Service
Service here is fast and efficient.  It can be a bit hurried or slow at times, based upon how busy the restaurant is.  Again, it is what it is, but you’ll walk away feeling well cared for.

Food
This is the ultimate spot anywhere in the UK for fish and chips.  For that matter, maybe anywhere in the world.  It’s unpretentious and straight forward.  Huge slabs of deep fried cod with chips and vinegar.  You can also choose from halibut, rock salmon and more, but cod is our favorite.  The fish is as fresh as can be and it’s served in newspaper, just as it should be.  Sure it’s a bit greasy, but good fish and chips are.  Portion sizes are plentiful.  If you have those with you who insist on a healthy alternative, you can get large portions of fish grilled, vs battered and fried. Convince them that deep fried is the only way to go at this establishment.  Don’t have time to stop and eat?  NSF has a take out window next door to the restaurant where you can walk up to right off the street and get take away.  Perfect!

Overall
This is a must stop whenever you travel to London.  It’s easy access from just about anywhere in the city and definitely worth a visit.  Whenever we’re in town, we eat here at least once if not twice during our visit.  You won’t be disappointed.

[box type=”note” ]There are no escalators in the Russell Square tube stop. There are 3 lifts (elevators), but otherwise you’ll need to take the stairs. The restaurant is an easy 7-10 minute walk from the tube.[/box]
